After spending the first 23 years of her life in the flatlands of Indiana, Polly Beck moved to Denver to serve as an AmeriCorps VISTA volunteer and to live in this gigantic playground we call Colorado. As an AmeriCorps volunteer, she worked with Summer Scholars, a DPS partner program, and has been committed to the students and families in Denver Public Schools ever since. As a first-generation college graduate, Polly does not take her education for granted. She received her B.A. in English and French from Indiana University and her M.A. in Linguistically Diverse Education from the University of Colorado Denver. She considers herself a life-long learner and has worked to instill that spirit in the students and teachers she has served at Harrington Elementary, Palmer Elementary, CLA, PREP Academy, and now at CEC. Polly views the CEC early college model as the ticket to success for so many students. With engaging real-world experiences embedded firmly in college and careers, students gain a sense of curiosity about the world and the inspiration to live their dreams. Polly has eternal wanderlust and when not working, she spends much of her time traveling domestically and abroad and planning her next trip. She is on a life-long quest to improve her Spanish and to learn a few other languages. Her husband and two children bring her gratitude and happiness every day along with activities such as snowboarding, stand-up paddleboarding, and making music with her band.
