Beginning with the 2026–27 school year, Denver Public Schools is implementing a new Personal Communication Device (PCD) Policy at all schools. The goal is simple: reduce distractions and create a learning environment where students can stay focused, engaged, and connected to their learning.
What is a Personal Communication Device (PCD)?
Personal communication devices include, but are not limited to:
Cellphones
Smartwatches and electronic watches
Wireless earbuds and headphones
Personal tablets and laptops
Non-District-issued computers or devices
Other personal electronic or communication devices
What does this mean at CEC?
All personal communication devices must be turned off and out of sight while students are on campus during the school day. This includes class time, passing periods, lunch, restroom breaks, and field trips.
Devices should be stored securely in a backpack or locker—not in pockets. Please note that the district is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged personal devices on school property.
How can families reach students?
Students will still be able to contact parents/guardians, employers, or others using the CEC Main Office phone when needed. Students should memorize or keep important phone numbers handy since they will not have access to their personal devices during the school day.
Working Together for Student Success
Creating a distraction-free learning environment takes all of us. We ask students, families, staff, and our entire CEC community to help support a smooth and consistent implementation of this new district policy beginning on the first day of school.
By working together, we can help students stay present, make meaningful connections, and get the most out of every learning opportunity at CEC.
