Bennett Spann, relentless scholar, dynamic athlete, and citizen of the world, has been an English teacher since 2004 and has worked in a range of public, private, and international schools. Born just outside of New York City and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Mr. Spann converted to Bronco fandom upon moving to Denver in 2013 and follows sports from football to baseball to soccer to basketball. He has a fondness for vinegar-based pulled pork barbecue and slow, Southern drawls. After beginning college as an Animal Science major at The University of Kentucky, Bennett switched majors and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature. He went on to attain his Masters in English Literature with a focus on 20th Century American fiction from the University of Virginia. After graduate school, Mr. Spann moved to Quito, Ecuador where he taught at The International School of Quito, traveled around South America, and met his future wife, Diana Quezada. After four years abroad, he and his wife moved to Atlanta, GA where they both taught at The Lovett School. In 2013, they moved to Denver where Mr. Spann taught Middle School English and Spanish for two years at Bryant Webster. Happy to return to high school, Mr. Spann continues to develop and share his passion for literature and his love of all things popular culture. When not teaching, Mr. Spann enjoys spending time with his children, hiking with his dog, playing basketball, skiing, reading, writing, cooking, fishing, watching movies, and listening to music.
